We brought in the new year

...by doing absolutely nothing. Ok, I was fixated on playing an XBox game that I rented, Destroy All Humans.

Quite a fun game where you are an alien sent to Earth to collect human DNA through, um, various means. Mel actually called it a night around 11pm but I kept playing for a bit. I decided to stop around 11:40pm, but as I was heading upstairs Mel was heading down. It turns out our neighbors were playing basketball and the constant thudding of the ball was loud enough to prevent any sleep. It was New Years Eve so we figured we couldn't very well ask the neighbors to stop so we decided to open up the futon downstairs so Mel could fall asleep while watching me play games. (Which oddly enough happens whenever I play a game, regardless of the time of day. If that trait carries over to Evan, it may come in handy when he wakes up at night.) A few minutes later, after setting up the futon, I powered up the XBox and was gaming again. Mel promptly fell asleep as I was merrily collecting DNA and destroying civilization as we know it. Right at midnight someone lit off fireworks and Mel woke up enough to wish each other a "Happy New Year". I played for another 20 minutes or so and called it a night.

In the morning when we woke up I took advantage of the rare opportunity to roll over, turn on the XBox and play some more. Not a bad deal by any means.
