Nolan went and had his head CT scan done last week on Friday. He was a trooper! Later on that day, we received a phone call from our pediatrician that the scan showed that Nolan had enlarged brain ventricles and that they wanted us to bring Nolan into the office to talk to us. It sounded like a pretty scary diagnosis. We went to the office and didn't see our pediatrician but her partner. He basically told us it could be nothing or it could be something, but that he was going to refer us to a pediatric neurosurgeon at OHSU and that we had an appointment 9am on Monday. So we took Nolan to his neurosurgeon appointment and waited forever for the doctor to see him. Basically, the doctor wasn't worried at this point and is 95% sure that nothing will happen because of this. He thinks that Mr. Nolan's head is growing faster than his brain and that fluid has to fill the extra space. The doctor said that his head growth should start to level off within the next several months. Basically, at this point it is just a wait and see game. We will be taking Nolan back in 3 months for a followup visit and possibly another scan.
On that same Friday, we took Kaden to see a orthotist for his head. Since Kaden was head down and squished by Nolan the whole time I was pregnant with him, he has a bit of a deformed head. So went to see the orthotist about getting a helmet to help reshape his head. We decided that since it is something that he would have to live with the rest of his life, that we would make sure we did everything we could for him. So Kaden will be getting fitted for a helmet in the near future.
